Are you a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with experience in utilities, power, infrastructure or major civil engineering projects? This is an opportunity to join an established contractor delivering overhead line projects as part of the UKPN framework, with the chance to take commercial ownership of technically interesting schemes and develop your career within a growing sector.

My client is looking for a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team based near Runcorn. You will be working on overhead line projects, supporting the successful commercial delivery of works from contract award through to final account.

Your role

  • You will be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of overhead line projects.
  • You will work closely with commercial managers, project managers, operational teams, clients and the wider commercial function to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and commercially successfully.
  • You will take ownership of project cost management, producing accurate forecasts and maintaining clear visibility of commercial performance.
  • You will oversee variations and change, ensuring commercial impacts are identified, assessed and managed effectively.
  • You will work with the project team to identify commercial risks and put appropriate mitigation measures in place.
  • You will prepare and manage Cost to Complete forecasts and Cost Value Reconciliations, ensuring financial reporting remains accurate and up to date.
  • You will manage subcontractor packages from procurement and appointment through to payment, account management and final settlement.
  • You will provide practical commercial and contractual guidance to project managers and the wider delivery team.
  • You will build strong working relationships across the commercial team, client representatives and supply chain partners.
  • You will support the resolution of contractual and commercial issues, helping to prevent matters from escalating into formal disputes.
  • You will ensure clear and consistent communication between commercial, operational and project delivery teams.
  • You will contribute to training and development plans while also supporting the tendering and pre-construction process.

What you will need

  • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within utilities, power, energy, infrastructure or civil engineering.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of cost control, forecasting and contract management.
  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts and variations.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with commercial, operational and client teams.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple commercial priorities.
  • Previous experience within overhead lines, electricity distribution or transmission would be particularly advantageous, although candidates with strong transferable experience from other infrastructure or utility sectors are encouraged to apply.

Salary and benefits

The salary is dependent on experience, with the overall package designed to reflect your level of commercial experience and responsibility, however, will be between £40,000 - £60,000 + company car/allowance.
