This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading rail services organisation responsible for operating a national fleet of on-track machines and freight trains supporting the maintenance of the UK's rail infrastructure. If you have experience managing environmental systems, conducting audits, investigating incidents and driving environmental improvements, this role offers the opportunity to take ownership of environmental performance across a key business unit while working alongside major clients such as Network Rail.
Your day-to-day will involve:
- Managing the ISO 14001 environmental management system
- Conducting site audits
- Investigating environmental incidents
- Producing environmental reports
- Supporting operational teams to ensure environmental compliance across multiple depots and work sites nationwide
As the Environmental Advisor, you will be the environmental lead within the business unit, working closely with operational teams to identify opportunities for improvement, promote best practice and drive sustainability initiatives including waste reduction, recycling and carbon reduction programmes. This is a hybrid role combining home working, office-based activities and regular travel to sites across the Midlands.
Essential:
- Experience managing or maintaining an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
- Previous environmental experience within construction, infrastructure, rail, utilities or similar sectors
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
- Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and environmental investigations
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Rail industry experience
- Environmental auditing experience
- Tender writing experience
- Experience producing environmental management plans and reports
- Knowledge of carbon reduction and sustainability initiatives
- IEMA qualification
- Environmental degree or equivalent
