You will be stepping into a senior planning-focused role where your expertise in Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategy delivery will directly influence development outcomes. This Flood Risk & Drainage Assistant Team Leader position is ideal for someone who enjoys early-stage development work, technical leadership, and mentoring others.

You will be joining a respected, growing consultancy supporting developer clients across the UK. My client provides integrated flood risk, drainage and infrastructure advice from site feasibility through to planning approval. You will work closely with planning, highways and water authorities, supported by strong internal collaboration across multiple disciplines.

As a Flood Risk & Drainage Assistant Team Leader, you will be leading pre-planning flood risk work and guiding a team delivering high-quality assessments.

You will be doing the following:

  • Leading the preparation and review of Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies
  • Supporting residential and commercial developments through planning applications
  • Acting as the key point of contact for clients, planners and approving authorities
  • Mentoring and developing junior members of the Flood & Water Management team
  • Applying professional judgement to complex planning and development constraints
  • Managing project programmes, budgets and workload distribution
  • Supporting Local Plan allocations and early-stage site feasibility studies
  • Contributing to best practice and continuous improvement within the team

This Flood Risk & Drainage Assistant Team Leader role is suited to professionals currently operating at Senior, Principal or Associate level who want to focus on planning-led flood risk work while developing leadership capability.

To succeed as a Flood Risk & Drainage Assistant Team Leader, you will bring:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline
  • Strong experience delivering Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies
  • Solid understanding of the planning system, NPPF and supporting guidance
  • Experience working with Local Planning Authorities and statutory consultees
  • Proven ability to mentor or line manage team members
  • Experience using GIS software such as QGIS, ArcGIS or MapInfo
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Chartership, a higher degree or exposure to business development activities would be advantageous but not essential.

You will receive a salary £54,000 - £65,000 per year dependent on experience, together with a well-rounded benefits package including:
