Role Summary
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Private Sector Housing Enforcement Officer to join a busy local authority team in North London on an initial 3-month contract.
The successful candidate will play a key role in improving housing standards across the private rented sector, investigating complaints, identifying housing hazards and ensuring landlords comply with relevant housing legislation.
What You Will Do as a Private Sector Housing Enforcement Officer
- Carry out inspections of privately rented properties to identify housing hazards, poor property conditions and potential breaches of legislation.
- Investigate complaints relating to housing disrepair, pest infestations, drainage, nuisance and other housing-related public health concerns.
- Assess housing risks and hazards using appropriate investigative techniques, determining the necessary remedial action and urgency of enforcement.
- Undertake enforcement action against non-compliant landlords, ensuring the appropriate legislation and procedures are followed.
- Provide professional advice and guidance to landlords, tenants, stakeholders and other council services on housing standards, licensing requirements and compliance.
What You Will Need as a Private Sector Housing Enforcement Officer
- Previous experience working in Private Sector Housing Enforcement, Housing Standards or a similar local authority enforcement role.
- Strong knowledge of relevant housing legislation, property licensing requirements and housing enforcement procedures.
- Experience conducting property inspections, identifying housing hazards and investigating housing-related complaints.
- Ability to gather accurate evidence, assess risks and determine appropriate enforcement or remedial action.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide clear advice to landlords, tenants and colleagues.
