My client is looking to source an experienced qualified Town Planner, who has experience in managing large scale planning applications, as well as leading a team of high level planners.

Role: Interim Team Leader (Planning)

Duration: 4-6 months initially

Rate: £65 per hour

Working Pattern: 37 hours per week (flexible)

Hybrid working offered - ideally 2 days in the office initially (one being a Wednesday). There is no expectation for site visits unless specific concerns arise relating to the role. This is a management-level role, focused on overseeing caseloads and ensuring work is progressed efficiently through the system. You will be responsible for providing clear direction on cases, managing complex planning matters, and supporting the wider team.

Key experience required:

  • Strong background in planning within complex environments
  • Ability to manage and advise on applications relating to greenfield sites, often within Green Belt and/or National Landscapes
  • Confident dealing with Green Belt / Grey Belt and tilted balance scenarios
  • Knowledge of SANGs, SACs, and DCOs

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide direction on cases and ensure progression through the system
  • Escalate issues where required
  • Act as lead officer at committee
  • Review and sign off complex reports
  • Demonstrate strong political awareness and confidence in decision-making

The LPA is looking for someone confident, experienced, and comfortable operating at a senior level within a high-pressure planning environment.
