About the Role
As an Associate Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of highways and transport infrastructure projects, ranging from local authority improvements to major national infrastructure schemes. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, lead client engagement, and ensure the successful delivery of projects from concept through to construction. You will be responsible for managing a small team of engineers, supporting their development, and contributing to the strategic growth of the Manchester office.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of highways and transport infrastructure projects
- Oversee feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed designs, and technical reports
- Provide project management expertise including budget control, programme management, and resource planning
- Act as primary client liaison, building strong and trusted relationships
- Ensure designs comply with DMRB, local authority standards, and wider industry best practice
- Support business development activities including bids, proposals, and presentations
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams including drainage, structures, planning, and environmental specialists
About you
Candidates should be Chartered (CEng) with solid experience delivering highways and transport projects, a strong understanding of DMRB, MfS and local authority standards, and good working knowledge of design tools such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MX or AutoCAD. Excellent communication skills, client-facing experience, and the ability to lead and influence stakeholders.
