Do you thrive on managing complex, multi-million-pound contracts that have a visible impact on local communities? Wiltshire Council is looking for a Waste Management Contract & Compliance Lead to oversee the delivery of our waste treatment and disposal functions across the county. This high-profile role involves managing large-scale waste and recycling contracts, ensuring environmental compliance, and supporting the council\’s strategic aims under the Environment Act 2021. Reporting to the Head of Waste Operations, you\’ll be a key member of the service leadership team. You\’ll lead a team of specialists, manage key contracts worth over £25m annually, and play a key role in transforming how waste services are delivered – ensuring service continuity, value for money, and sustainability. Key responsibilities: Lead and manage waste treatment and disposal contracts, including MRF, landfill, composting, and household recycling centres. Ensure all services meet legal, environmental, and performance standards. Provide expert advice on waste legislation and policy development. Monitor contract performance, resolve complex operational issues, and drive service improvements. Deputise for the Head of Waste Operations when required. What you\’ll need: Degree or significant experience in commissioning, contract, or environmental management. Proven success managing large-scale, high-value service contracts. Strong budgeting, analytical, and leadership skills. Knowledge of waste permitting, pollution control, and health & safety in waste operations.
