I'm currently working with a well-established engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint a Senior CAD Technician to support a growing pipeline of major infrastructure and construction projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CAD professional with strong Tekla Structures and AutoCAD experience to join a highly technical engineering environment where you'll work closely with engineers on complex steel and reinforced concrete structures. The business operates across a range of sectors including civil engineering, infrastructure, rail, highways, energy, and temporary works, and they are known for delivering practical, contractor-focused engineering solutions.
The Role
As a Senior CAD Technician, you'll play a key role in the preparation, detailing, and modelling of steel and RC structures from engineering briefs, working collaboratively with engineers and wider project teams. This is a position suited to someone who can work with a good degree of autonomy, manage their own workload effectively, and contribute to the successful delivery of projects in line with quality, programme, and commercial expectations. You'll also support and mentor junior technicians, helping to maintain high drafting standards and develop best practice across the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality 2D drawings and 3D models using Tekla Structures and AutoCAD
- Work closely with engineers to develop practical and buildable design solutions
- Prepare plans, sections, and detailed construction drawings
- Ensure projects are delivered to programme and within agreed timescales
- Coordinate with internal teams, clients, fabricators, and suppliers
- Contribute to BIM delivery in line with ISO 19650 standards
- Identify and communicate design risks and constructability issues
- Mentor and support junior CAD Technicians
- Assist with maintaining drawing standards and technical quality across projects
Requirements
To be considered, you should have:
- A minimum of 5 years' relevant CAD Technician experience
- Strong experience using Tekla Structures (steel or RC detailing)
- Proficiency with AutoCAD
- Experience producing engineering drawings within civil, structural, or construction environments
- Good understanding of construction methods and buildability
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage workload and prioritise effectively
Desirable experience includes
- Civil 3D, Revit, or Navisworks exposure
- BIM / ISO 19650 project experience
- HNC, HND, or degree qualification
- Professional development towards EngTech status
