What you'll be doing day to day as Senior Quantity Surveyor
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, as Senior Quantity Surveyor you will support the contract delivery team to ensure profitability, cash management, cost control, and accurate reporting across schemes. You will be doing things such as:
- Managing applications for payment and credit control processes to optimise income.
- Managing costing, forecasting, and commercial reporting processes.
- Running the change control system and ensuring variations are captured and agreed.
- Inputting into the management of project risk from a commercial perspective.
- Producing and maintaining CTCs and CVRs.
- Managing the full subcontract cycle from procurement through to final account.
- Providing clear commercial advice to the Project Team.
- Supporting dispute resolution where required.
- Maintaining strong communication within the Project Commercial Team and wider Project Team.
- Supporting training plans and contributing to tendering activity when required.
- Training and mentoring an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
- Working away from home 1-2 nights per week and travelling to projects around the UK as needed.
What you'll need to bring
To be successful as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will bring solid contractor-side experience and confidence managing commercial processes end to end. You'll need:
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a contracting environment.
- Degree-qualified, or HND/HNC equivalent.
- Working towards a recognised professional qualification.
- Substantial post-degree experience in a commercial department.
- Working knowledge of construction industry conditions of contract.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft packages, particularly Excel.
- Confidence in training, coaching, and supporting junior staff.
- A collaborative, professional approach that builds trust with clients and the supply chain.
