We are recruiting a Senior Design Engineer to lead the delivery of highway improvement, maintenance, and traffic engineering schemes. This is a key role for a highly experienced engineer with responsibility for technical design, team leadership, and project delivery across multiple schemes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and co-ordinate multi-disciplinary design teams to deliver highway projects on time, to cost, and to quality standards
- Conduct technical design checks and ensure compliance with internal quality and safety processes
- Manage staff performance, training, and development, including mentoring junior engineers
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, collaborating to define project objectives and deliverables
- Plan and allocate resources effectively, including sub-consultants and external partners
- Ensure legal compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation in design and construction
- Oversee commercial performance and support programme management
Requirements
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or highly experienced engineer working towards CEng (10+ years in highways design)
- Extensive experience leading multi-disciplinary highway projects to meet programme, cost, and quality expectations
- Strong highways design and construction knowledge, including review of design outputs
- Experience with NEC contracts and Local Highway Authority standards
- Knowledge of highway design guidance: DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, and other relevant codes of practice
- Proven track record in mentoring and developing staff
- Strong commercial awareness and H&S management in design and construction
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD / Civil 3D experience desirable
