We're recruiting an experienced Inquiries & Decisions Officer to join the Housing Needs service of a North London local authority on an initial 6-month contract. This role will focus on assessing homelessness applications, completing detailed enquiries and making robust, legally compliant decisions for both single applicants and families. A key priority will be reviewing pre-existing applications and helping to clear a backlog of homelessness decisions. You'll manage cases in accordance with relevant homelessness legislation, gather and assess evidence, undertake enquiries and issue clear, well-reasoned decision letters. You'll need to balance strong technical knowledge with a responsive and empathetic approach, ensuring residents remain at the heart of the service. Working through a trauma-informed lens, you'll engage with residents who may be experiencing complex and challenging circumstances and ensure appropriate safeguarding considerations are incorporated into your casework. You'll have: ·Strong experience of homelessness assessments, enquiries and decision-making within a local authority setting. ·Detailed working knowledge of relevant homelessness and housing legislation. ·Experience producing high-quality, legally robust homelessness decision letters. ·Strong case management, investigation and evidence-assessment skills. ·Experience working sensitively with vulnerable residents and complex cases. ·A sound understanding of adult and child safeguarding responsibilities.
