An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Highway Inspector to come and join the highways maintenance team in the Merseyside area.
The main duties of the Highway Inspector are:
- Undertake scheduled and reactive highway safety inspections in line with national and local standards (e.g., Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure Code of Practice).
- Identify, assess, and record defects or hazards on carriageways, footways, cycleways, and verges.
- Prioritize and issue works orders for necessary repairs, ensuring compliance with service level agreements and response times.
- Liaise with contractors, utility companies, and in-house teams to coordinate works and verify completion standards.
- Monitor highway maintenance schemes and works in progress to ensure compliance with specifications, safety requirements, and environmental standards.
- Investigate complaints and service requests from the public, councillors, and other stakeholders regarding highway condition or safety concerns.
- Keep accurate, timely records and reports, using digital tools and GIS-based systems.
- Assist with winter service operations, emergency responses, and special projects as required.
- Support the preparation of reports and data to inform asset management planning and funding bids.
