Exciting Opportunity for a Highway Engineer An excellent opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced Highway Engineer to join a progressive local authority team in Leicestershire. This permanent, full-time role offers flexible and hybrid working arrangements, giving you the autonomy to manage your work-life balance while playing a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the county\’s road network. This role is central to delivering highway maintenance and improvement schemes that directly impact the safety and efficiency of the region\’s transport infrastructure. Working within a supportive and skilled team, the successful candidate will contribute to high-quality engineering solutions, ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities, and play a key part in safeguarding Leicestershire\’s roads for the future. The main duties of the Highway Engineer are: ·Design, assess, and implement highway maintenance and improvement schemes across Leicestershire. ·Issue and manage works orders to the term maintenance contractor. ·Supervise contract awards, liaising with third-party stakeholders and agreeing contract payments. ·Work closely with other Highways officers to maintain a safe and functional road network. ·Record scheme information accurately in the Asset Management System to support legal compliance. ·Apply relevant legislation such as the Highways Act 1980 and the Well-Managed Highway Infrastructure guidance. The Highway Engineer will have key experience in: ·Delivering highway safety and maintenance projects in a local authority or similar setting. ·Understanding and applying highway-related legislation and best practice. ·Demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills with technical accuracy. ·Collaborating effectively with contractors, consultants, and internal teams. ·Holding a full UK driving licence to enable travel to various locations across the county.
