Are you an experienced Head of Highways looking for your next challenge? Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Highways to join them on a full time Contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for highway asset management, routine and reactive maintenance, winter services, network management, highway structural maintenance, revenue and capital, maintenance of highway structures, and management of the street lighting PFI contract.
  • To oversee the day-to-day management of the Council's highway network through a range of reactive and routine maintenance activities, including highway inspections, defect repairs, road marking maintenance, gully maintenance, winter maintenance policy and decision-making, and related issues.
  • To oversee the development and prioritisation of the Council's capital programme for highway maintenance and improvement schemes, securing appropriate funding and ensuring relevant Council approvals are obtained. To oversee the implementation of programmes including carriageway resurfacing, footway renewals and other complex street scene improvement schemes.
  • To oversee the highway authority's responsibilities regarding developers' and other third-party works, including appropriate checking and approval processes such as those under s38 and s278 of the Highways Act. To fulfil the highway authority's statutory obligations in support of the council's own developments, such as Meridian Water and other regeneration and housing schemes.
