A well-established road surfacing and infrastructure contractor is seeking a Transport Manager or Transport Supervisor to oversee and develop its transport operations. This role is suitable for either a Qualified Transport Manager to be named on the company's Operator's Licence, or a Transport Supervisor looking to progress and achieve their Transport Manager CPC qualification.
You will be responsible for the compliant, safe, and efficient management of a diverse fleet of HGVs, light commercial vehicles, and plant machinery, playing a key role in supporting day-to-day operations and future business growth.
About the Operation
- Fleet of approximately 30 HGVs including tippers, grabs, gully suckers, sweepers, and low loaders
- Around 40 light commercial vehicles, including vans and dropsides
- Over 60 items of plant machinery, including pavers, planers, excavators, rollers, and associated equipment
- In-house workshop supported by experienced mechanics
- Operating at FORS Silver accreditation level
Key Responsibilities
- Manage driver compliance in line with DVSA legislation and company policies
- Take responsibility for the Operator's Licence, ensuring full legal and regulatory compliance
- Oversee fleet and plant maintenance, servicing, inspections, and defect management
- Plan and manage MOTs, inspections, testing, and servicing schedules
- Analyse tachograph and driver data to ensure ongoing compliance
- Manage bulk fuel supplies and fuel usage monitoring
- Support driver recruitment, inductions, training, and ongoing development
- Maintain FORS compliance and manage audits, renewals, and accreditation requirements
- Report directly to senior management, with autonomy to manage and improve transport operations
About You
This role would suit a proactive and organised transport professional with strong compliance knowledge and leadership skills.
Essential:
- Proven experience in transport, logistics, or fleet management
- Strong understanding of DVSA regulations and operator compliance
- Confident managing drivers and transport operations
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Transport Manager CPC (or willingness to work towards qualification)
- Experience managing mixed fleets of HGVs, vans, and plant
- FORS accreditation experience
- Background in construction, highways, or surfacing environments
