We are currently looking for experienced Homeless Caseworkers to join a busy Housing Needs service. The role will focus on assessing homelessness applications, making statutory decisions and working with households to prevent and relieve homelessness.

The successful candidates will have strong local authority homelessness experience, detailed knowledge of current legislation and the ability to manage a caseload from assessment through to decision.

The Role

  • Assessing homelessness applications and making statutory decisions in line with legislation.
  • Managing a caseload of households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
  • Developing and progressing prevention and relief activity to secure appropriate housing outcomes.
  • Completing detailed enquiries and investigations to determine statutory duties.
  • Drafting legally compliant homelessness decision letters.
  • Providing housing advice and explaining statutory decisions to applicants.
  • Applying relevant legislation when dealing with complex homelessness cases.
  • Maintaining accurate case records and working within safeguarding policies and procedures.

Key Requirements

  • Recent experience assessing homelessness applications within a local authority environment.
  • Experience preventing and relieving homelessness.
  • Detailed working knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Knowledge of the Renters' Rights Act 2025, particularly in relation to tenancy reform.
  • Knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Children Acts, Equality Act 2010 and GDPR as they apply to homelessness.
  • Experience drafting statutory homelessness decision letters.
  • Experience independently managing a homelessness caseload.
