My client is an established consultancy delivering flood risk, drainage and infrastructure solutions for a diverse portfolio of projects. As a Flood Risk Consultant, you will be doing a mixture of drainage design, flood risk assessment and technical report writing. You will work alongside experienced professionals and will be supported in developing your knowledge of sustainable drainage systems and wider flood risk considerations.

What you will be doing

  • Produce drainage designs, with a particular focus on sustainable drainage systems and SuDS.
  • Prepare drainage strategies, drainage statements and supporting technical reports.
  • Assist with and undertake Flood Risk Assessments for a range of development projects.
  • Review different sources of flood risk and identify the data required to support assessments.
  • Use AutoCAD and MicroDrainage to develop practical and compliant drainage solutions.
  • Apply relevant planning policy, standards and guidance, including the NPPF, PPG and National Standards for SuDS.
  • Work with colleagues to test and improve project processes.
  • Explore how AI and other digital tools can improve efficiency, quality and project delivery.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to colleagues, clients and other project stakeholders.

What you will need

My client is looking for someone with some experience in flood risk, drainage or a related civil engineering discipline. Around two years of experience would be beneficial, although applications are welcomed from candidates with a different level of relevant experience.

  • Competence in AutoCAD and MicroDrainage.
  • An interest in drainage design and sustainable drainage systems.
  • Experience preparing drainage statements, drainage reports or similar technical documents.
  • An understanding of relevant policies and guidance, including the NPPF, PPG and National Standards for SuDS.
  • A good understanding of flood risk principles and the information available to support flood risk assessments.
  • Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
  • A proactive approach and a willingness to suggest new ideas.
  • Experience using Site3D, QGIS, ArcGIS, Causeway or other drainage modelling software would be advantageous but is not essential.

Salary and benefits

The salary for this Flood Risk Consultant position is £32,000-£42,000 per year, dependent on experience.
