Technology Site Agent
Location: Western Essex
Role: Freelance (Outside IR35/CIS)
We are seeking a skilled Technology Site Agent to join a major highways project based in Western Essex. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of highway technology and smart lighting schemes while working with industry‑leading stakeholders and contractors.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing the successful delivery of technology and electrical engineering projects across the highways sector. You will oversee subcontractors, coordinate design activities, manage project programmes and budgets, and ensure compliance with industry standards and contractual requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Managing subcontractors in line with company procedures
- Preparing, reviewing, and briefing method statements and risk assessments
- Overseeing project management plans, programmes, and delivery schedules
- Monitoring project costs, budgets, and financial reporting
- Coordinating design activities to deliver practical and efficient solutions
- Managing project risks and ensuring contractual compliance
- Delivering projects safely, on time, and profitably
- Building strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, authorities, and third parties
- Applying electrical engineering expertise including cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, and system design
- Ensuring compliance with BS7671 and relevant industry standards
- Supporting the design and delivery of highway technology and smart lighting schemes
- Working with smart motorway and highway technology systems including NRTS, MS1, AMI, and ESS
- Maintaining CPD and keeping up to date with industry developments and legislation
Please note that due to the nature of the role, occasional ad hoc night site visits will be required.
To be successful, you will have
- Proven project management experience within electrical engineering, highways technology, or smart lighting projects
- Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, and system design
- Working knowledge of BS7671 and relevant industry standards and legislation
- Experience managing subcontractors, project programmes, budgets, and project risks
- Experience preparing and reviewing method statements and risk assessments
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Understanding of highway technology and smart motorway systems, including NRTS, MS1, AMI, and ESS
- A proven ability to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and within budget
- Strong organisational and problem‑solving capabilities
