Carri ngton West is assisting a local authority client based in Essex in searching for an Interim Planning Officer to join their Development Management team. The role is a 3–6 month contract (extensions likely) and involves managing a caseload of householder and pre-applications, as well as small-scale minor applications (1–2 houses).
The candidate should be enthusiastic, ambitious, and possess relevant qualifications and demonstrable experience. They must be able to analyse issues, write clearly and concisely, organise workload autonomously, meet deadlines, and maintain high customer-service standards while utilising modern technology solutions. Because the district has significant Green Belt coverage, familiarity with the determination of planning applications in the Green Belt is essential.
Qualifications and Skills
- Qualification at degree level in planning or a related discipline, or significant demonstrable experience in the field.
- Experience and knowledge of working within Development Management as a Case Officer.
- Ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and partners.
- Comprehensive appreciation and understanding of current local government issues.
- Strong organisational skills to meet deadlines, performance targets, and customer-service commitments.
- Familiarity with Green Belt policies and the determination of Green Belt applications.
- Preferred: RTPI accredited Planning Degree or equivalent planning qualification, and recent local authority planning experience.
