Are you an experienced Highways Design Engineer looking for your next contract opportunity? We are seeking Senior Civil Engineers with a strong highways design background to support the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure projects across the UK. This role would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of schemes, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and providing technical leadership throughout the design process.
The successful candidate will have experience delivering highway and civil engineering projects from concept through to detailed design and will be confident managing multiple workstreams while ensuring designs are delivered to programme, budget and quality standards.

Projects vary in size and complexity and include:
- Active travel and sustainable transport schemes
- Walking and cycling infrastructure projects
- Junction improvement works
- Highway maintenance and renewal programmes
- Local authority highways projects
- Strategic road network improvements
- Major highway infrastructure schemes
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver highways and civil engineering designs across a variety of projects.
- Produce and review engineering calculations, reports, drawings and specifications.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and client requirements.
- Coordinate with internal teams, stakeholders and external organisations.
- Support project planning, programme management and resource allocation.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Identify and resolve technical challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of quality, safety and engineering excellence.
About You
To be considered, you should have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience delivering highways design projects.
- Strong knowledge of highways design standards and industry best practice.
- Experience using relevant design software and engineering tools.
- The ability to manage your own workload and deliver projects to deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience checking and reviewing technical outputs produced by others.
- Chartered status or progress towards chartership would be advantageous but is not essential.
