North Northamptonshire Council is seeking an experienced Repairs Officer to support the delivery of a responsive repairs and maintenance service across its housing portfolio.
Working within the Repairs & Maintenance Team, you will oversee day-to-day repairs operations, supervise trades operatives and contractors, carry out pre and post inspections, and ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory requirements. You will play a key role in managing performance, maintaining compliance, and delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage responsive repairs, voids, planned maintenance, and compliance-related works.
- Supervise in-house trades teams and external contractors.
- Undertake pre and post inspections and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare specifications, reports, and tender documentation.
- Monitor contractor performance, budgets, and service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, asbestos, gas, electrical, and environmental legislation.
- Support staff management, development, and performance monitoring.
Requirements
- Experience within repairs, maintenance, housing, or construction services.
- Knowledge of responsive repairs, void management, and contractor supervision.
- Understanding of health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience managing operational teams and workloads.
- Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable
- Local authority or social housing experience.
- Experience with disrepair claims and contract management.
- Budget management experience.
- Technical qualifications related to building maintenance, gas, electrical, or asbestos works.
