I am currently headhunting for a Head of Pre-Construction to join a leading contractor as they continue to expand their presence across the UK's Transmission and Distribution sector. You'll play a key role in securing major projects spanning overhead lines, substations and battery energy storage systems, helping to shape the future of the UK's energy infrastructure.

About the Company

My client is a contractor operating within the UK's power and energy infrastructure sector, looking to expand into delivering major transmission and distribution projects for some of the country's most recognised utility providers. With a strong reputation for quality, innovation and collaboration, they continue to invest in their people while delivering projects that support the UK's transition to a more sustainable energy network.

What You Will Be Doing

As Head of Pre-Construction, you will lead the Pre-Construction function, creating an engaged, collaborative and high-performing culture focused on delivering exceptional bids, accurate estimates and outstanding customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing the Pre-Construction and Energy Estimating teams, creating a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Assessing and prioritising bidding opportunities based on historical performance, profitability, win rates and strategic objectives.
  • Managing the overall bid pipeline to ensure business plan order targets are achieved, including MS Dynamics management and KPI reporting.
  • Working closely with Regional Managing Directors to develop client engagement strategies, stakeholder mapping and account growth plans.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key clients including National Grid, SSE, Scottish Power, UK Power Networks and other major utility organisations.
  • Forming and leading bid teams to pre-qualify, prepare and deliver high-quality tender submissions.
  • Reviewing technical and commercial submissions to ensure bids are competitive, commercially robust and technically compliant.
  • Chairing tender settlement meetings and contributing to innovative technical solutions and delivery methodologies.
  • Supporting the development of work-winning capability across the wider business.
  • Championing Health & Safety, sustainability initiatives and ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and industry regulations.
  • Embedding and promoting company values throughout the Pre-Construction function.

What You'll Bring

To be successful as Head of Pre-Construction, you will ideally have:

  • Proven experience leading successful bids for complex multi-million-pound infrastructure including highways and rail or energy projects.
  • Strong leadership experience managing high-performing pre-construction, estimating or bid management teams.
  • A technical, engineering or estimating background is highly desirable.
  • A relevant professional qualification would be advantageous.
  • Excellent commercial, financial and strategic business acumen.
  • Experience working with major utility providers, infrastructure clients or joint venture partners.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • A customer-focused approach with a clear understanding of successful work-winning strategies.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and developing people.

Salary and Benefits
