An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to join a well-established highways team delivering a range of highway improvement and active travel schemes across Cheshire East.
This role would suit a technically strong highways professional with significant experience in highway design and the ability to provide expert interpretation of design standards, whilst supporting the successful delivery of projects from conception through to completion.
The Role
As a Senior Highway Engineer, you will play a key role in managing the technical delivery of projects, providing guidance to engineers and technicians, and acting as a senior point of contact for clients and stakeholders. You will be responsible for reviewing designs, advising on technical matters, allocating work across the wider team and ensuring schemes are delivered in accordance with programme requirements and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical delivery of highway and active travel schemes.
- Review and approve highway design work and technical documentation.
- Provide technical interpretation of standards, guidance and regulations.
- Attend client meetings and provide expert technical advice.
- Support the pricing and scoping of new work packages.
- Allocate and coordinate work across engineering teams.
- Review traffic management submissions and project documentation.
- Ensure projects are delivered to programme, budget and quality requirements.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in highway design, ideally at Senior Engineer level.
- Proven experience delivering Active Travel and highway improvement schemes.
- Strong knowledge of TSRGD and highway geometry design.
- Experience providing technical guidance and reviewing engineering outputs.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D.
- Understanding of vertical highway design principles.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within Local Authority environments.
- Knowledge of Cheshire East's highway network and standards.
- Experience using Civil 3D.
- Previous involvement in major highway schemes.
