Role Overview: Due to continued growth and a major infrastructure project win in South Wales, my client is looking to appoint multiple Site Engineers and Section Engineers to support the delivery of a new tram line connecting Cardiff Central Station to Cardiff Bay. The project will involve major enabling works, drainage, earthworks, utilities, and Section 278 highway works, delivered in stages over an expected two-year programme. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing regional team and play a key role in a landmark transport scheme that will shape Cardiff's future infrastructure.
The successful candidate will join a close-knit self-delivery team based out of the site office behind Cardiff Central Station. You will be involved in all aspects of site engineering, from surveys and site clearance through to planning works, managing permits, and supporting delivery on site. This role would suit someone with 2-5 years of post-graduate experience who wants to develop their technical ability, gain exposure to major civils works, and progress toward chartership within a highly supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out site surveys and site clearance activities
- Produce and manage method statements, RAMS, and permits to dig
- Support planning and coordination of works on site
- Maintain accurate site diaries and allocation sheets
- Assist with drainage, earthworks, and groundworks delivery
- Work closely with project and commercial teams to identify risks and early warnings
- Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements
- Support the delivery of phased highway and rail interface works
Essential requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of post-graduate experience as a Site Engineer
- Experience working on drainage, earthworks, and groundworks on rail or highways projects
- Experience working within a self-delivery environment
- CSCS Card
Desired requirements:
- SSSTS
- PTS
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or similar
- Awareness of commercial processes such as early warnings and risk management
- Ambition to progress toward chartership
