An experienced Principal Engineer is required to lead the delivery of major highways and infrastructure projects from concept through to completion. This role will see you managing complex programmes valued above £5m, leading multi-disciplinary teams, and overseeing technical delivery, governance, funding, and stakeholder engagement within a Local Authority environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead highways and infrastructure schemes from inception to delivery
  • Manage multiple complex projects and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Provide technical leadership and design assurance across highways and drainage schemes
  • Manage budgets, programme delivery, procurement, and consultant performance
  • Lead stakeholder engagement including funding bodies and senior leadership
  • Ensure compliance with DMRB, MfS2, LTN guidance, TSM, and CDM 2015
  • Oversee public consultation, risk management, and scheme delivery on site
  • Mentor Senior Engineers and wider technical teams

Requirements

  • Extensive highways and infrastructure project delivery experience
  • Strong Local Authority or consultancy background
  • Experience leading schemes valued above £5m
  • Strong technical knowledge of highways design standards and drainage
  • Excellent stakeholder management and leadership capability
  • Chartered status desirable
