Job Role: Build the Future of HS2 with a Critical Client-Side Engineering Role
My client is seeking an experienced and commercially aware Senior Project Engineer with strong MEP and Building Services expertise to join one of the main JV's. This is a unique opportunity to play a key assurance and delivery role on one of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure programmes.
Working on behalf of the JV, you will oversee and verify contractor self-assurance activities across complex building services installations associated with tunnel portal buildings, shafts, and pumping stations across the HS2 route.
This role is ideally suited to a Senior Project Engineer with experience in Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Fire Systems, Power, or Building Services integration within major infrastructure, rail, tunnelling, utilities, or complex construction environments.
Key Project Scope
You will support the assurance and delivery of building services fit-out works across:
- Bromford Tunnel portal buildings and shafts
- Long Itchington Tunnel portal buildings and shafts
- Burton Green Tunnel portal buildings and shafts
- 5 pumping stations across the route
A coordinated intent design has already been completed, and your focus will be on the contractor's design development, assurance, systems integration, and certification activities.
The Opportunity
As Senior Project Engineer, you will act as the JV technical lead for MEP assurance activities during the contractor design stage. You will ensure that contractors deliver coordinated, compliant, and certifiable systems integration across multiple building services disciplines.
This is not a detailed design or standards management role. Instead, you will provide engineering oversight, assurance leadership, and interface management to ensure successful delivery outcomes. You will work closely with an existing MEP specialist within the team, with a stronger focus on the up-front contractor design and assurance phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee contractor self-assurance activities for MEP and building services systems
- Review and verify contractor design submissions and assurance evidence
- Ensure effective systems integration across:
- Mechanical systems
- Electrical systems
- HVAC
- Fire and life safety systems
- Lighting
- Power distribution
- Building services controls
Requirements
Essential Experience
- Proven experience as a Senior Project Engineer, MEP Project Engineer, or Building Services Engineer on major infrastructure or construction projects
- Strong understanding of MEP systems integration and assurance processes
- Experience overseeing contractor design and delivery activities
- Background in complex infrastructure environments such as:
- Rail
- Tunnelling
- Utilities
- Airports
- High-value construction
- Major infrastructure programmes
Why Join HS2?
This is an opportunity to contribute to one of the UK's most complex and nationally significant infrastructure programmes, ensuring the successful integration and assurance of critical MEP systems across major tunnel and infrastructure assets. You will join a collaborative delivery environment where your technical expertise and assurance capability will directly influence safe, compliant, and successful project outcomes.
