About the Opportunity
My client is a well-established principal contractor with an outstanding reputation for delivering complex highways and civil engineering projects across the UK. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are looking to appoint an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial function on a major infrastructure scheme in Bedford.
The Role
As the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the overall commercial success of a £200 million highways and civils project. You will lead a dedicated commercial team whilst working closely with operational and project leadership to ensure contractual compliance, maximise profitability and minimise commercial risk.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading all commercial activities from project inception through to final account.
- Managing and mentoring Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors across the project.
- Preparing, reviewing and presenting CVRs, forecasts and financial reports to senior leadership.
- Identifying and managing commercial risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Driving value engineering opportunities and commercial efficiencies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Managing subcontract procurement, negotiations and final account agreements.
- Providing expert contractual advice and protecting the commercial position of the business.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and the supply chain.
- Supporting recruitment, performance management and professional development within the commercial team.
- Ensuring commercial procedures and governance are consistently maintained.
What You'll Need
To be considered for this Managing Quantity Surveyor position, you will ideally have:
- Significant experience working as a Managing Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor within the highways or civil engineering sector.
- Proven experience delivering large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to manage project finances through to final account.
- Previous experience leading and developing commercial teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
