An established civil engineering practice is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Associate / Associate Director Civil Engineer to lead the Civils Team within its Derby office. You will be working alongside a talented group of Chartered, mid-level and graduate engineers, taking a lead role in both technical delivery and team management. This role is well suited to an ambitious senior civil engineer who enjoys responsibility, variety and working on technically challenging projects from concept through to completion.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead and manage the Civils Team, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
- Deliver complex civil engineering projects, including highway and drainage design, from feasibility through to detailed design.
- Take responsibility for both technical and financial project delivery, ensuring budgets and programmes are met.
- Work closely with directors to support work winning, business development and client relationships.
- Contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects including bespoke new builds, refurbishments and heritage schemes.
- Champion sustainable and re-use-focused engineering design principles across projects.
Your Background
- A minimum 2:1 BSc/BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- At least 10 years' post-qualification experience in civil engineering.
- Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g. MICE).
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own transport.
Technical & Leadership Responsibilities
- Producing high-quality concept, preliminary and detailed designs for highways and drainage.
- Undertaking drainage calculations including QBar, attenuation storage, soakaways, foul flows, pipeline capacities and network analysis.
- Designing adoptable and non-adoptable highways, car parks, driveways and footpaths for permeable and impermeable surfaces.
- Overseeing submissions including Developer Enquiries, Environment Agency requests and LLFA consultations.
- Preparing and reviewing technical reports such as Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
- Managing sustainability criteria across projects.
- Line managing senior and junior engineers.
- Supervising CAD/Revit technicians and carrying out QA reviews.
- Complying with Designer duties under the CDM Regulations.
- Supporting marketing, client development and identifying new business opportunities.
