A North East London local authority is seeking an experienced Accommodation Needs Assessment Officer to join their busy Housing Needs team on a 3-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a homelessness professional with strong knowledge of housing legislation and temporary accommodation to work on complex and meaningful cases, supporting vulnerable households and helping to prevent homelessness across the borough.
In this role, you will:
- Assess temporary accommodation and housing needs under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996
- Manage complex homelessness cases and support customers with housing options
- Update and implement Personalised Housing Plans in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
- Work closely with Social Care, hospitals, legal services and other partner agencies
- Make decisions relating to Section 193 discharge of duty
- Coordinate placements within specialist temporary accommodation schemes
- Maintain accurate homelessness records and statutory data
To be successful, you will need:
- Previous experience within homelessness prevention or temporary accommodation
- Strong understanding of the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
- Excellent case management and communication skills
- Experience supporting vulnerable households in a local authority setting
