This Customer Service role combines face to face customer contact with telephony and online digital support. The Customer Service team provide first point of contact for residents of Somerset wishing to contact Somerset Council. Customer Service Officers are required to effortlessly provide quality advice, guidance and support to every customer with an increased digital focus towards helping customers self serve using online solutions.

This is an office based position based in Yeovil supporting customers who choose to visit our offices or contact us by telephone for help. Office working will be at our office at Brympton Way and Customer Service point (CSP) inside Yeovil Library.

37 hrs per week, Monday to Friday. Our telephone lines are open 8.30 – 5pm, so working patterns will be within these hours. This is a temporary contract for approx. 12 weeks. This is a busy and highly rewarding role, handling high volume customer enquiries.

You will be providing ‘Front door’ support, meaning you will be the first point of contact for customers needing advice and assistance about any service provided by Somerset Council including Council Tax, Waste, Benefits, Highways, Transport, Planning, Licensing Adult Social Care, Children’s Services, and more.

Qualifications:
  • Excellent customer service skills including listening, empathy, understanding and kindness
  • Excellent all round communication skills including strong interpersonal skills for face to face interaction and telephony
  • Confidence, resilience and professionalism to handle high volume, sensitive and sometimes emotive interactions
  • Good computer skills, confidence to learn new systems and use multiple technologies
  • Enthusiasm to learn about our services, a positive and calm way of working and a problem solving mindset

Office day working will combine working at Brympton Way Council Office and at Yeovil Library where we have our Customer Service point. Applicants will be required to work at both locations so will need to be able to travel. Parking is available at both sites.
