Report Writer / Developer
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced
Report Writer / Developer to support reporting and business intelligence requirements across
Children’s Social Care .
The successful candidate will work closely with service stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, develop technical solutions and deliver accurate, high-quality reports and dashboards.
The role is highly technical and requires strong experience in
SQL, Power BI, data warehousing and data transformation .
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with stakeholders across Children’s Social Care to understand reporting requirements and translate these into clear technical specifications.
- Write, optimise and troubleshoot complex
SQL/T-SQL queries, stored procedures and database views to extract and manipulate data.
- Design, develop and maintain a comprehensive suite of
Power BI reports, dashboards and data visualisations .
- Carry out robust data validation and quality assurance testing to ensure reports are accurate, complete and reliable.
- Create and maintain a centralised report catalogue .
- Produce and maintain detailed documentation covering report definitions, data sources, business logic, calculations and data dictionaries.
- Investigate and resolve complex reporting issues, data discrepancies and performance problems, including reviewing data lineage and query execution plans.
- Transform and cleanse data from multiple systems into structured datasets suitable for analysis and reporting.
- Undertake light
ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) activities where required.
- Manage reporting permissions and security roles to ensure sensitive information is only accessible to authorised users.
- Work collaboratively with
Database Administrators and Data Engineers to understand data structures and support improvements to data models.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, data quality and reporting performance.
- Mentor colleagues and share best practice around reporting, Power BI and data development.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Strong professional experience in report development, business intelligence or data development .
- Advanced
SQL/T-SQL skills, including complex queries, stored procedures and views.
- Strong hands-on experience developing
Power BI dashboards and reports .
- Experience working with
SQL Server and data warehouses .
- Strong understanding of data modelling and data transformation.
- Experience with
ETL processes and integrating data from multiple sources.
- Experience of data validation, quality assurance and investigating data discrepancies.
- Ability to troubleshoot reporting and database performance issues.
- Strong stakeholder management and requirements-gathering skills.
- Experience producing technical documentation and maintaining reporting governance.
- Understanding of data security, permissions and access controls.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within a
Local Authority or public sector environment .
- Experience working with
Children’s Social Care data or services .
- Experience with SQL Server tools such as
SSIS, SSRS or SSAS .
- Experience working alongside Data Engineers and Database Administrators.
- Experience mentoring other analysts or developers.
- Ideal Candidate
- The ideal candidate will be a technically strong
BI Developer, Power BI Developer, Report Developer, SQL Developer or Reporting Analyst with excellent SQL and Power BI experience.
Candidates with
Local Authority and/or Children’s Social Care reporting experience would be particularly well suited, although strong BI professionals with transferable public sector reporting experience will also be considered.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical skills with the ability to understand business requirements and turn complex data into accurate, accessible and meaningful management information.
