Job Description

  • Job Purpose

To provide an efficient and reliable mailroom courier service by sorting, collecting and delivering a wide range of mailroom items and associated products between countywide buildings and external locations.

The post holder will be responsible for operating Council vehicles safely and efficiently, completing scheduled courier runs, meeting agreed service standards and supporting the effective delivery of internal and external mail and document services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sort, collect, transport and deliver mail and other items to various Council and external locations.
  • Complete daily courier runs within agreed working hours and service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Collect and deliver internal and external mail using Nottinghamshire County Council vehicles.
  • Ensure all mail items are dispatched and collected accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Maintain and operate Council vehicles in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and guidance.
  • Complete all required vehicle-operation, delivery and collection documentation.
  • Carry out appropriate vehicle checks and report any defects, concerns or issues that could affect service delivery or safety.
  • Maintain vehicles in a clean and presentable condition.
  • Safely lift, load, transport and unload heavy items in accordance with manual-handling procedures.
  • Wear all required protective clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Check Resource Hubs on a daily basis and replenish stationery and other agreed supplies to the required levels at County Hall and Trent Bridge House.
  • Manage personal workloads effectively and work independently without close supervision.
  • Prioritise tasks and resources to ensure all scheduled deliveries and collections are completed on time.
  • Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach when dealing with internal and external customers.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

  • Work effectively as part of the Mail & Despatch Services team while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
  • Take responsibility for the safe and appropriate use of allocated Council vehicles.
  • Report any operational, vehicle, health and safety or service-delivery concerns to management promptly.
  • Follow all relevant operational policies, procedures, guidelines and service standards.
  • Complete all mandatory and role-specific training.
  • Work effectively within agreed procedures, deadlines and delivery schedules.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and support the Council’s corporate image.
  • Ensure identification and appropriate workwear are worn when representing the Council.
  • Handle mail, documents and other information appropriately and in accordance with Data Protection requirements.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Full, valid and appropriately endorsed driving licence.
  • Manual Handling training or willingness to undertake relevant training.
