Shropshire Council is looking for a Technical Compliance Officer – Fire Safety to support the delivery of fire safety compliance and remediation works across the Council’s property portfolio. This is a key role within the Property Services Group, helping ensure council buildings remain safe, compliant, and aligned with current fire safety legislation and best practice standards.

The Role

You will support the management and delivery of fire safety remedial works identified through Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs), helping drive compliance across a varied property estate including public buildings, operational sites, schools, and community facilities. Working closely with the Team Leader for Technical Compliance and Senior Building Surveyor (Fire Safety), you will coordinate contractors, manage compliance actions, maintain accurate records, and support the ongoing development of fire safety compliance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support fire safety remediation works across the council estate
  • Manage actions arising from Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs)
  • Procure and organise contractors and remedial work packages
  • Monitor fire safety compliance against legislation and best practice
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, certification, and audit documentation
  • Liaise with contractors, surveyors, stakeholders, and operational teams
  • Support continuous improvement of fire safety procedures and compliance systems
  • Promote a strong culture of fire safety and risk awareness throughout the organisation

About You

We are looking for someone with experience in:

  • Fire safety compliance or property compliance
  • Managing remedial or maintenance works
  • Working within estates, housing, facilities, or property environments
  • Contractor coordination and compliance monitoring
  • Understanding fire risk assessments and corrective actions

You will also have:

  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Good attention to detail and record-keeping ability
  • Knowledge of fire safety legislation and compliance requirements
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities across a varied estate
