- Overview
- We are seeking an experienced
SEN Manager to lead and oversee the delivery of statutory SEND assessment processes for children and young people with Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs.
The post holder will manage the EHCP service function, ensuring that statutory assessments, EHC Plans and placement decisions are delivered effectively, within legislative requirements, and in line with the principles of person-centred practice.
You will provide strong leadership to the SEND EHCP Coordinator team, ensuring high-quality case management, effective partnership working and positive outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and support the SEND EHCP Coordinator team, ensuring effective allocation of work, quality standards and timely completion of statutory assessments.
- Oversee the EHC needs assessment process in accordance with the
- Children and Families Act 2014 and
SEND Code of Practice 2015 .
- Ensure EHC Plans are developed through a co-production approach, involving children, young people, families, schools and partner agencies.
- Champion a child-centred approach by ensuring the views, wishes and aspirations of children, young people and their families are fully reflected within EHCPs.
- Provide oversight and quality assurance of EHCP processes, ensuring plans are legally compliant, outcome-focused and meet the individual needs of children and young people.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, colleges and professionals to manage complex SEND cases and resolve issues effectively.
- Support effective decision-making around educational placements for children and young people with EHCPs, ensuring appropriate provision is available and aligned with High Needs Funding arrangements.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with colleagues across Health, Social Care and Education services to ensure coordinated and cost-effective support.
- Monitor service performance, identify areas for improvement and contribute to the ongoing development of SEND services.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on SEND legislation, statutory duties and best practice.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Significant experience working within SEND services, ideally within a local authority environment.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of EHCP processes, statutory assessments and SEND legislation.
- Experience managing or supervising staff within a SEND, education or statutory assessment setting.
- Ability to manage complex cases involving children and young people with a range of additional needs.
- Experience working collaboratively with schools, families, Health and Social Care professionals.
- Strong understanding of person-centred planning and co-production approaches.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines and high-volume workloads.
Desirable Experience
- Experience managing SEND teams or statutory assessment functions.
- Knowledge of High Needs Funding arrangements and specialist education placements.
- Experience working within a local authority SEND improvement environment.
- Understanding of SEND tribunal processes and complaint management.
