Technical Year-End / Close Down Accountant
Location: Rugby Borough Council
Contract: Temporary – project-based
Start Date: ASAP
Working Pattern: Ideally 2–3 days per week in the office, with flexibility for the right candidate
Day Rate: Negotiable, dependent on experience
About the Role
Rugby Borough Council is seeking an experienced Technical Year-End / Close Down Accountant to support its year-end close-down programme as part of a wider financial transformation project.
The successful candidate will provide specialist technical accounting support, helping the council complete its year-end financial processes accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical accounting support throughout the year-end and financial close-down process.
- Support the preparation and finalisation of the council’s year-end accounts.
- Review financial information and assist with resolving technical accounting queries.
- Support year-end reconciliations, journals and supporting working papers.
- Assist with audit preparation and respond to relevant audit queries.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the council’s finance team.
Essential Requirements
- Recent experience working within a local authority finance team.
- Extensive technical accounting and year-end close-down experience.
- A strong understanding of local government accounting and financial reporting.
- The ability to work independently and provide specialist technical support.
- Availability to start at short notice, as long notice periods cannot be accommodated.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working within a District or Borough Council.
- Experience supporting financial transformation or year-end improvement programmes.
Interview Process
One-stage interview process, with interviews ideally taking place next week, subject to a suitable shortlist.
