We are looking for a skilled and motivated Gardener to join our Estate Services team, helping to maintain and improve green spaces across Council estates. You will play a key role in keeping our communities cleaner, safer, and greener by delivering high-quality horticultural maintenance across a range of environments.
Working as part of a supportive team, you’ll carry out a variety of grounds maintenance tasks using specialist tools, machinery, and vehicles, ensuring our estates are well-presented and welcoming for residents and visitors.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Maintain lawns, hedges, shrubs, flower beds, and natural areas
- Carry out grass cutting, edging, pruning, planting, and weed control
- Use horticultural machinery such as mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, and blowers
- Support minor landscaping and estate improvement works
- Ensure equipment and vehicles are used safely, maintained, and secured
- Apply herbicides where required (training provided if needed)
- Report hazards, safeguarding concerns, and environmental risks
- Deliver excellent customer service to residents and the public
- Work safely at all times in line with health and safety procedures
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is practical, reliable, and takes pride in outdoor work.
Essential:
- At least 2 years’ experience in gardening or grounds maintenance
- Knowledge of horticultural practices (pruning, soil cultivation, etc.)
- Experience using gardening machinery safely
- Strong awareness of health & safety in outdoor environments
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work well in a team and independently
- Clean, full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture (or equivalent)
- PA1a & PA6a pesticide application certificates
- Experience with minor landscaping or machinery maintenance
