The Role

We are looking for committed and skilled Youth Justice Case Workers to join Birmingham Youth Justice Service. You will play a key role in preventing offending and reoffending by delivering effective, trauma-informed and restorative interventions for children and young people. You will work across multi-agency settings, including courts, community services, and partner organisations, to support young people in building pro-social identities and achieving positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise children and young people subject to statutory court orders and community sentences
  • Deliver diversion from court programmes, including referral orders and panel work
  • Write high-quality Pre-Sentence Reports and court reports in line with National Standards
  • Undertake risk assessments relating to reoffending and serious harm
  • Develop and deliver intervention plans to support behaviour change
  • Work directly with young people, families, victims, and partner agencies
  • Contribute to bail support and remand services
  • Ensure restorative practice is central to all interventions
  • Maintain accurate records and support performance monitoring
  • Contribute to service development, quality assurance, and continuous improvement
  • Manage a caseload effectively, prioritising competing demands

About You

We are looking for someone who is confident, resilient, and committed to making a difference. You will bring:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Youth Justice, Education or related field
  • At least 2 years’ experience working directly with children and families in youth justice (within the last 5 years)
  • Experience working with vulnerable or disengaged young people
  • Strong understanding of criminal justice legislation and youth justice systems
  • Ability to assess risk and create effective intervention plans
  • Experience writing court reports to strict deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong teamwork and multi-agency working skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Understanding of victim perspectives and restorative approaches
