Day rate – £290 (umbrella)

Deadline – 6th February 2026

We are looking for committed and proactive Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) Officers to join our SEN service. You will play a key role in supporting young people as they prepare to move from school or college into adult life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support young people to plan for their future, ensuring their EHCPs reflect their aspirations and that the right support is in place to make these a reality.
  • Work closely with young people, families, schools, colleges, social care, and health professionals.
  • Attend and contribute to annual reviews from Year 9 onwards, embedding PfA outcomes such as:
  • Employment
  • Independent living
  • Community participation
  • Good health
  • Promote access to opportunities such as supported internships, apprenticeships, and training.
  • Ensure smooth transitions into adult services where needed.
  • Skills and Qualities Required
    • Excellent communication – able to explain complex processes clearly and sensitively.
    • Empathy, patience, and belief in young people’s potential.
    • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
    • Confidence to work across multiple agencies.
    • Experience of transition planning and knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice is essential.
    • Ability to use Synergy is desirable.
    • Ability to write plans and reports — Essential
    • Must be able to write clear, concise and outcome focused EHC plans with a high level of attention to detail (NB These plans are a legal document) — Essential
    • (i) Knowledge of the 1996 Education Act, (ii) knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and (iii) Knowledge of the law and procedure around Special Educational Needs and Tribunal proceedings — Essential
    • A good basic education, especially in English and maths — None
    • A thorough awareness and understanding of legislation relevant to special educational needs — Essential
    • Developing an understanding of current arrangements through engagement with the following, Admission and Transport Team (operations), Planning and Development Team (policy). EHC Coordination Team. Preparing for Adulthood Team. Integrated Transport Unit. Local Schools — Essential
    • Excellent knowledge of education and children’s services — Beginner
    • Experience of working with a broad range of people including families, education, social care and health care professionals — Essential
    • Knowledge of Special Educational Needs and the issues arising from support for such pupils
