Location: Based at Meadowfield Depot, with travel to council workplaces and properties across County Durham as required.

Reporting To: Roofing Manager

Salary: Tradesman rate plus interim operational allowance.

Role Purpose: To deliver a high-quality, cost-effective roofing repairs and maintenance service across council-owned properties, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of customer satisfaction. The post holder will undertake roofing repairs, maintenance, and associated building works, working independently or as part of a team to meet service requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out roofing repairs, maintenance, and associated building works in accordance with specifications and work instructions.
  • Undertake planned and responsive maintenance activities across a range of commercial and public buildings.
  • Inspect roofs and identify defects, damage, or potential issues requiring repair.
  • Use appropriate access equipment and work safely at height in accordance with current regulations and safe working practices.
  • Maintain and use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and ensure it remains in good condition.
  • Comply with all health and safety legislation, policies, procedures, and training requirements.
  • Report any hazards, incidents, defects, or unsafe conditions to management promptly.
  • Complete timesheets, job records, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Deliver excellent customer service when interacting with building users, colleagues, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Contribute to the efficient use of materials, resources, and working time to ensure value for money.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Work in accordance with all relevant health and safety legislation and council policies.
  • Follow safe systems of work and use equipment appropriately.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture and report any risks or concerns.

General Responsibilities:

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Roof Covering or equivalent qualification.
  • Completed trade apprenticeship.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

Essential Experience:

  • Relevant roofing experience.
  • Experience working in a repairs and maintenance environment.
  • Experience working on commercial properties.
  • Ability to work safely at height and use appropriate access equipment.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working without direct supervision.
  • Experience using Resistrix roofing systems.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
