We are seeking an experienced Interim Project Manager to join our Residential Environmental Health team, playing a pivotal role in accelerating fire safety remediation in tall buildings and raising standards across Islington’s Private Rented Sector (PRS). With borough-wide house in multiple occupation (HMO Licensing), the expansion of our selective licensing scheme across 10 wards, new powers under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025, and updates to the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), this is a unique opportunity to shape how we regulate, enforce, and improve housing conditions across the borough. At Islington, we believe everyone deserves a safe, well‑managed home — and you will be instrumental in making that a reality.

The Role

You will be part of the Residential Environmental Health team, working alongside officers focused on fire safety regulation and tall building remediation. You will lead and support a range of projects aimed at delivering strong regulatory outcomes and improving housing standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and delivering multiple projects in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Driving forward tall building inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions.
  • Supporting complex casework, including coordinating inspections and procuring specialist expertise.
  • Working closely with legal teams to progress enforcement activity.
  • Maintaining accurate and compliant records and documentation.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to support delivery.
  • Ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Using data and insight to improve service performance and outcomes.
  • Lead on the development of policy, procedures, systems, and service improvements.
  • Supporting implementation of updated Housing Act 2004, HHSRS, and Renters’ Rights Act 2025 provisions.

About You

You are a confident and solutions-focused professional with a strong track record in project delivery and regulatory environments. You will bring:

  • A project management qualification (or equivalent experience delivering complex projects).
  • Excellent planning, organisational, motivational and time management skills.
  • The ability to take ownership of issues and drive them through to successful resolution.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to adapt, improvise and overcome issues promptly.
  • Skills to risk assess situations and issues for a positive outcome.
  • Knowledge and experience of regulating the Private Rented Sector.
  • Excellent communication (in-person, written and verbal) and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive, enforcement-focused mindset with attention to detail.

Why Join Us?

  • Make a genuine difference to residents’ lives.
  • Work in one of London’s most dynamic PRS environments.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • Supportive, ambitious leadership team.
  • Opportunities to influence policy and shape services.
  • Ongoing professional development and career progression.
  • Competitive / Negotiable Daily Rate.
