Role Purpose

Support the Risk and Insurance Team in managing the Council’s insurance portfolio and delivering an effective insurance and claims service.

Typical Day

Manage and progress insurance claims, communicate with insurers and other stakeholders, investigate claims, review supporting evidence and update records. The role will also involve responding to enquiries, preparing reports and ensuring claims are handled within Council procedures and relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and submit insurance claims to external insurers.
  • Process motor, property, public liability and employers’ liability claims.
  • Negotiate and settle routine property and liability claims.
  • Investigate claims and gather supporting evidence.
  • Liaise with insurers, solicitors, loss adjusters and internal teams.
  • Handle insurance-related correspondence, calls and enquiries.
  • Prepare reports, returns and documentation for insurers and courts.
  • Maintain accurate claims records and ensure compliance with policies and legislation.
  • Prioritise workloads and meet required deadlines.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience in non-life insurance claims.
  • Knowledge of motor, property, public liability and employers’ liability insurance.
  • Experience negotiating and settling claims.
  • Understanding of insurance policy cover and liability.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Local authority insurance experience desirable.
  • Knowledge of JCAD LACHS desirable.
  • CII qualification or part-qualification desirable.
