  • Main Purpose of the Role

To provide planned and reactive maintenance across Camden Council properties, with a focus on commercial plumbing and mechanical systems.

The role involves diagnosing faults, completing repairs and minor installations, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the safe and effective operation of building services.

  • Typical Day Overview
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across council properties.
  • Diagnose faults and maintain plumbing, heating, pumps, calorifiers and mechanical plant.
  • Attend different sites using a work vehicle and manage an allocated workload.
  • Update jobs, findings, materials and completion details using mobile/CAFM systems.
  • Carry out risk assessments and follow health, safety and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Communicate with site staff, contractors and colleagues.
  • Mentor and support a plumbing apprentice, demonstrating safe working practices and technical skills.

  • Strong commercial plumbing and mechanical maintenance skills.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving ability.
  • Experience with planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently in occupied buildings.
  • Good understanding of health, safety and water hygiene requirements.
  • Accurate record keeping and confidence using mobile devices/CAFM systems.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability and willingness to mentor and develop an apprentice.
  • Basic awareness of electrical building services and when specialist support is required.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent recognized qualification in Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.

Substantial practical experience in commercial plumbing and mechanical maintenance.

  • Experience maintaining heating systems, pumps, pressurization units, expansion vessels, calorifiers and associated plant.
  • Experience in both planned preventative and reactive maintenance .
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

Full UK driving License.

  • Ability and willingness to mentor a plumbing apprentice .
  • Experience using mobile devices or CAFM systems to record maintenance work accurately.
