The Barnet Domestic Abuse Safety Hub (BDASH) forms part of the borough’s coordinated response to domestic abuse, providing advocacy, safety planning and support to survivors of domestic abuse across Barnet. The service delivers high-quality, trauma-informed interventions, working in partnership with statutory and voluntary sector agencies to improve safety, reduce risk, and promote recovery.

As Team Manager, your primary responsibility will be to oversee the day-to-day operations of BDASH and to lead a team of specialist staff, including Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs) and other practitioner roles. You will ensure that the service is delivered to a high standard, that contractual and organisational expectations are met, and that survivors receive timely, effective and person-centred support. This role requires strong leadership, the ability to manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment, adapt to new software operating systems and processes and a commitment to partnership working. You will be responsible for ensuring delivery against agreed outcomes, maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, and keeping the needs of survivors at the centre of all service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Delivery
    • Deliver BDASH directly and through the team, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, local authority expectations, internal standards, and relevant quality frameworks.
    • Delivery of a culturally responsive, inclusive and trauma-informed service for survivors of domestic abuse.
    • Safeguarding concerns are identified and addressed in accordance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
    • Annual team and individual work plans are in place and regularly monitored.
    • Overall responsibility for the management of relevant contracts, partnership agreements and pathways.
    • Completion of regular performance and monitoring reports for commissioners and stakeholders, evidencing service activity and outcomes.
  • Leadership and Staff Development
    • Lead, develop and motivate staff within the team by providing effective line management, supervision, coaching and mentoring.
    • Facilitating regular team meetings, case discussions and quality assurance activity.
    • Promoting a culture of continuous learning, reflection and professional development.
  • Performance Management
    • Ensure effective use of case management systems and high-quality casework in line with agreed standards.
    • Clearly communicate performance expectations, targets and priorities.
    • Monitor individual and team performance against key performance indicators, outputs and outcomes.
    • Provide support and management of underperformance where required.
  • Partnership Working and Representation
    • Act as the outward-facing lead for BDASH by building and maintaining effective relationships with key partners including police, health, housing, children’s services and voluntary sector organisations.
    • Supporting co-located working arrangements and integrated service delivery where applicable.
    • Representing the service at multi-agency forums, including high-risk panels such as DA MARAC.
    • Identifying opportunities to strengthen partnership practice, training and system improvement.

  • Act as an ambassador for BDASH and represent the service at borough-level meetings and forums.
  • Be responsible for monitoring expenditure and ensuring budgets are used appropriately, while supporting annual budget planning.
  • Work in line with financial procedures and contribute to achieving value for money.
  • Ensure safeguarding is central to all practice and that appropriate action is taken where concerns arise.

  • Significant experience of working with vulnerable individuals, particularly those affected by domestic abuse.
  • Experience of delivering or managing advocacy and support services.
  • Experience of working within a regulated environment, including risk management and case management systems.
  • Experience of multi-agency partnership working, including MARAC processes.
  • Sound knowledge of legislation, safeguarding frameworks and policy relating to domestic abuse.
  • Understanding of the practical, emotional, social and economic impacts of domestic abuse on individuals and families.
  • Proven leadership and management experience within an equalities framework.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with commissioners, partners and stakeholders.

Qualification & Knowledge

  • Level 3 regulated qualification in supporting victims of domestic abuse (e.g., SafeLives IDVA training or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of domestic abuse legislation and safeguarding frameworks (e.g., Domestic Abuse Act 2021, Children Act 1989, Care Act 2014).
  • Civil, family, and criminal justice processes, including protective orders and special measures.
  • Risk assessment tools such as DASH and safety planning frameworks.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and intersectional needs of victims.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and willingness to undertake clinical supervision.
  • Educated to degree level with relevant and UK recognised professional skills and qualifications commensurate with the needs of effective service delivery i.e. Psychology, Mental Health, Counselling, Social work.
  • Minimum of 3 years post qualification in domestic abuse work.
  • Basic training in management competencies.

The Team Manager will oversee a multi-disciplinary team which includes IDVAs, DAIOs and a Senior DAIO and specialist roles aligned to partnership settings (e.g. police, health, MASH, and other pathways).
