Special Education Needs Finance Officer
Salary Scale: BR4 (Β£13.60 per hour)
Hours: Temporary (currently to 31st August 2026), Monday to Friday inclusive 36 hours per week
Location: Civic Centre, Churchill Court, 2 Westmoreland Road, Bromley, Kent, BR1 1AS
It is anticipated that the appointed person may be given the opportunity to work in a hybrid manner with at least 2 days being office based with the other 3 days working from home. This will be determined by the nature of the task(s) set.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person with financial awareness and experience of working in a busy team. You will need excellent interpersonal, communication, organisational and ICT skills to join our team. The working environment is fast-paced, with many externally driven non-negotiable deadlines across these different services. These deadlines often overlap and careful planning, organisation and creative thinking is required to prevent any of the services failing to achieve their reporting and financial deadlines.
The main purpose of the role is to support a range of services provided within the Special Educational Needs Finance Team in a local authority financial environment. The person will undertake a range of financial functions and include the following:
- Process invoices for educational fees relating to pupils with special education needs attending a range of educational establishments (including independent, day and residential schools, out-borough schools, post-16 placements and other settings) and process invoices for other services.
- Liaise with Social Services regarding payment of fees for joint funded placements, recording all transactions and updating information as required upon relevant systems.
- Maintain and update the management information system (currently, Capita ONE) and spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) including updating financial information and providing reports, as and when required.
- Prepare and send roll lists to establishments (including Special Schools and Bromley Additional Resource Provision units) on a termly basis and as and when required.
- Prepare High Needs Funding schedules regarding placements and special units and raise invoices to other local authorities, as required.
- Assist the SEN Data and Finance Manager with collation of financial information and statistics for internal reporting and other agencies, as required.
- Undertake any other duties to ensure the efficient and effective running of the service provision.
There will be an expectation that you will support service improvement looking for ways to strengthen our financial processes, including reporting and accessibility of physically held supporting data required for auditing. Applicants should enjoy working as part of a team, as well as independently.
