We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Immigration Support Worker to join our Rough Sleeping team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing essential support to individuals experiencing homelessness, with a particular focus on those facing immigration issues and challenges accessing public funding. Your primary objective will be to help them access the fastest route off the streets, including facilitating local or international reconnections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Immigration Support: Provide guidance and assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness with immigration issues, including those without access to public funding or those without an immigration status in the UK. Assess the immigration status of clients and identify available options and pathways for regularization. Collaborate with immigration solicitors, immigration charities and organisations to ensure clients receive accurate legal advice and support. Join outreach sessions, either during early morning (5-9 am) or late at night (9pm – 12am) to target those sleeping rough and support them to engage with available services.
  • Case Management: Develop and maintain individualised support plans for clients, taking into account their immigration status, social needs, and health concerns. Monitor client progress and adapt support strategies as necessary to ensure successful outcomes. Maintain accurate and confidential client records, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Housing and Reconnection: Identify and facilitate the fastest and most suitable housing options for clients, which may include emergency shelters, transitional housing, or more permanent solutions. Coordinate local or international reconnections for clients who have family or support networks in other locations. Work with relevant agencies and organizations to secure housing and transportation for clients.
  • Advocacy and Education: Advocate for clients within the immigration system and other relevant agencies to ensure their rights and needs are met. Provide information and education to clients about their immigration rights and obligations. Offer resources and referrals for language classes, job training, and other services to support client self-sufficiency.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Rough Sleeping team and partner agencies to provide holistic care for clients. Attend team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions as required. Communicate effectively and share information to ensure a coordinated approach to client care.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in outreach work or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing support to individuals experiencing homelessness and immigrants with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of immigration laws and processes, including those related to asylum, visas, and refugee status.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with cultural sensitivity and empathy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and data management systems.
  • Fluency in languages other than English is a plus.
  • A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of client confidentiality and data protection.
