About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Cloud Engineering team, playing a key role in designing, delivering and supporting secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and platforms.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership position, responsible for developing cloud solutions, driving automation, improving platform reliability and security, and enabling engineering teams through modern cloud technologies and self‑service infrastructure.

You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure cloud services remain highly available, performant and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and optimise secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and platforms.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Ia C) solutions using modern automation practices.
  • Manage and support cloud-hosted operating systems, business applications and platform services.
  • Ensure cloud environments are secure, resilient and compliant with organisational security standards.
  • Monitor platform performance, availability and capacity, proactively identifying opportunities for optimisation.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of technical incidents, driving continuous service improvements and root cause analysis.
  • Design and implement monitoring, alerting and operational tooling to improve service reliability.
  • Develop automation, scripts and tooling to streamline infrastructure management and reduce manual effort.
  • Support cloud migration initiatives and modernisation projects.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, architects, cyber security specialists and third‑party suppliers to deliver cloud solutions.
  • Review technical designs and provide guidance on cloud architecture, networking and infrastructure best practice.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to the development of technical standards, documentation and engineering practices.
  • Participate in an on‑call rota, including occasional out‑of‑hours support.

Skills & Experience

We’re looking for candidates with experience in most of the following

  • Strong experience designing and supporting Microsoft Azure cloud environments.
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep or ARM Templates.
  • Automation and scripting using Power Shell and/or Python.
  • CI/CD pipelines using Azure Dev Ops or similar platforms.
  • Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), identity and access management.
  • Azure networking, including Virtual Networks, VPNs, NSGs, Private Endpoints and Express Route.
  • Windows Server and Linux administration within cloud environments.
  • Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and cloud monitoring solutions.
  • Cloud security best practices, including RBAC, Key Vault, Defender and vulnerability management.
  • Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure and business‑critical applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, incident management and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non‑technical teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Experience with cloud migrations and platform modernisation programmes.
  • Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Experience working within highly regulated or public sector environments.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications (e. g. Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Dev Ops Engineer or equivalent).
