Main Purpose
To lead and manage a Local Authority school admissions service, ensuring effective delivery of statutory admissions duties, policies and processes across the borough.
Typical Day
- Lead the school admissions service and team.
- Oversee applications, allocations and appeals.
- Ensure compliance with admissions legislation and statutory deadlines.
- Advise senior officers and stakeholders on admissions matters.
- Liaise with schools, parents, councilors and other partners.
- Monitor performance, workload and service standards.
- Manage complex admissions cases and resolve issues.
- Develop and improve admissions processes and systems.
Key Duties
- Manage the full local authority school admissions function.
- Lead and support admissions officers and wider teams.
- Oversee school place planning and admissions allocations.
- Ensure statutory requirements and deadlines are met.
- Provide expert advice on school admissions legislation and policies.
- Work closely with schools and education stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, performance information and recommendations.
- Manage complaints, escalations and complex cases.
- Drive service improvements and ensure high-quality customer service.
Essential Requirements
- Significant experience as a Head of Admissions or senior admissions manager within a London Local Authority.
- Direct Local Authority school admissions experience is essential.
- Strong knowledge of school admissions legislation, regulations and statutory processes.
- Experience managing school admissions applications, allocations and appeals.
- Experience leading and managing an admissions team.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience working with schools, parents, senior officers and elected Members.
