About the Role
Knowsley Council is looking for an experienced and passionate Children’s Social Worker to join its friendly and supportive Children with Disabilities Team. The team provides specialist social work support to disabled children and young people up to the age of 18, helping them and their families access the right services and achieve positive outcomes.
You will be responsible for managing a varied caseload, assessing children’s needs, developing tailored support plans and working collaboratively with families and other professionals to promote children’s safety, wellbeing and development.
Experience working specifically with children with disabilities is desirable but not essential, as training, supervision and ongoing professional development will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of children and young people within a statutory children’s services setting.
- Undertake assessments to identify children’s needs, risks and appropriate support.
- Develop, implement and review personalised care and support plans.
- Undertake direct work with children, young people and their families, building positive and trusting relationships.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers and multi-agency professionals, including health, education and other social care services.
- Identify and coordinate appropriate support packages to meet the individual needs of disabled children and their families.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns and manage complex situations, ensuring children’s safety and welfare remain a priority.
- Monitor progress and review interventions to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.Maintain accurate case records, assessments and reports in line with statutory requirements.
- Participate in team meetings, reflective supervision and ongoing professional development.
Essential Requirements
- A recognised Social Work qualification.
- Current registration with Social Work England.
- Experience working within statutory children’s social care.
- Experience managing a caseload and undertaking assessments of children and families.
- Experience of direct work with children, young people and their families.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and collaborative working skills.
- Ability to manage complex cases, assess risk and exercise sound professional judgement.
- A commitment to relationship-based and strengths-based social work practice.
- A willingness to learn, reflect and contribute to a supportive team environment.
- Enhanced DBS clearance.
- Must have the right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship.
Desirable
- Experience working with children and young people with disabilities.
- Knowledge of disability-related support services and complex needs.
- Experience working with multi-agency professionals in children’s services.
- A commitment to continuous professional development.
Working Arrangements
This is a hybrid role based at Nutgrove Villa in Huyton, with an expectation to attend the office for a minimum of three days per week. Knowsley Council offers flexible working options, including part-time hours, reduced hours and condensed working patterns, subject to service requirements.
