Main Purpose of the Role
To lead and manage a team of Social Workers within the Cared for Children's Service, ensuring high-quality care planning, permanence planning, safeguarding and positive outcomes for looked-after children and young people. The Team Manager will provide effective supervision, leadership and support to practitioners, including ASYEs.
Typical Day
- Manage and supervise a team of Social Workers supporting cared for children.
- Oversee care planning, reviews and permanence planning.
- Provide guidance on complex cases, safeguarding and risk management.
- Support practitioners with assessments, interventions and court work.
- Ensure children's voices, needs and aspirations remain central to planning.
- Work closely with families, carers and partner agencies.
- Monitor casework quality, performance and statutory timescales.
- Support and develop less experienced Social Workers and ASYEs.
- Contribute to service improvement and practice development.
Key Skills & Responsibilities
- Strong experience managing Cared for/Looked After Children (LAC) services.
- Significant knowledge of permanence planning and care planning.
- Strong safeguarding and risk-management experience.
- Excellent supervision and people-management skills.
- Experience supporting and developing Social Workers/ASYEs.
- Strong assessment, analysis and decision-making skills.
- Good knowledge of court processes and care proceedings.
- Ability to build effective relationships with children, families and professionals.
- Strong leadership, communication and partnership-working skills.
- Commitment to child-centred practice and positive outcomes.
Essential Requirements & Qualifications
- Qualified Social Worker.
- Current Social Work England registration.
- Significant experience working with Cared for/Looked After Children.
- Previous Team Manager/management or significant supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of permanence planning and safeguarding.
- Experience managing complex risk and professional decision-making.
- Demonstrable supervision skills.
- Strong assessment and court skills.
- Full UK driving license and access to a car.
