About the Role
North Northamptonshire Council is seeking an experienced
Senior Business Support Officer to provide high-level administrative and operational support across two busy Adult Social Care service teams:
- Assistive Technology Team
- Occupational Therapy Team
This is a key business support position responsible for ensuring the smooth running of administrative processes, systems, data, reporting and day-to-day operations across the service.
The successful candidate will be confident supervising and supporting administrative staff, working closely with clinical leads and managers, and managing a varied workload within a busy public-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Support & Supervision
- Oversee the workflow and allocation of tasks across the business support team.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, support and supervision to administrative staff.
- Support recruitment, induction and integration of new business support employees.
- Assist with sickness monitoring, audits and other staff-related processes.
- Work closely with Clinical Leads and the Therapy Manager to coordinate operational priorities.
- Administration & Operational Support
- Provide proactive administrative support across the Adult Social Care Customer Pathway.
- Manage public-facing inboxes and ensure enquiries are responded to promptly and professionally.
- Arrange and support meetings, including preparing agendas and taking accurate minutes.
- Arrange interpreters for home visits across North Northamptonshire.
- Organise training sessions, DSE assessments and staff feedback processes.
- Support file searches and Subject Access Requests (SARs).
- Produce regular communications, including a quarterly service newsletter.
- Maintain office systems, equipment and information systems to ensure effective service delivery.
- Data, Systems & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records and data across relevant IT, ERP and case management systems.
- Use Microsoft Excel to produce reports, statistics and performance information.
- Monitor KPIs and cross-reference information across reporting systems.
- Support audits and ensure information is maintained to a high standard.
- Assist with the implementation and effective use of IT systems and digital improvements.
- Finance & Service Processes
- Monitor business processes and budgets, liaising with Team Managers where appropriate.
- Support financial administration and income-maximisation processes.
- Assist with the Disability Facilities Grant (DFG) process, including ordering and finance tracking.
- Support housing adaptations administration.
- Ensure administrative processes comply with Council policies, procedures and statutory requirements.
- Process Improvement
- Review existing business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and maintain process maps and workflows.
- Produce proposals for changes to systems and procedures where required.
- Support initiatives designed to improve efficiency, quality and customer experience.
- Customer & Stakeholder Support
- Maintain effective working relationships with Customer Services, Web Teams, clinical staff, managers and other internal departments.
- Respond professionally to general enquiries from members of the public and professionals.
- Support the delivery of a high-quality service to customers and vulnerable adults.
- Attend joint clinical home visits when required.
About You
We are looking for someone who is
- Experienced in senior administration or business support.
- Confident supervising, guiding and allocating work to administrative staff.
- Highly organised and able to prioritise a varied workload.
- Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Experienced in using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Confident working with databases, ERP systems and case management systems.
- Able to produce accurate reports and maintain high-quality records.
- Experienced in reviewing and improving administrative processes.
- A strong communicator who can work effectively with both professionals and members of the public.
- Adaptable, approachable and confident when dealing with changing priorities.
- Able to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider team.
- Committed to confidentiality, safeguarding, equality and high-quality customer service.

Essential Requirements
- Good standard of English and Maths or equivalent.
- Strong Microsoft Office and IT skills.
- Experience of administration, record management and business systems.
- Experience of supervising or coordinating administrative staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of Health & Safety and safeguarding requirements.
- Ability to travel between locations and attend home visits when required.
- Full driving capability is essential for the role.
- Basic DBS clearance required.
- Working Arrangements
Training will initially be delivered on-site at Haylock House, Kettering . Once fully trained, the role will move to a hybrid working arrangement , with office attendance required as appropriate for the needs of the service.
